The former Chelsea goalkeeper has announced that he will be retiring from professional football at the end of the season.

The vastly-experienced Arsenal goalkeeper feels the time is right to walk away as he has "won every single trophy possible".

Having played for 20 years, the Czech Republic international took to social media to announced his retirement with a special message.

"This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season."

Arsenal also responded to his tweet to thank their goalkeeper for his selfless contribution towards the team's success. This was a tweet from the Gunners Official Account;

“For your consummate professionalism, for being the perfect role model, for the 50 clean sheets, for your honesty, your integrity and for your inspiring work with @AFC_Foundation, we want to say... Thank you, @PetrCech!”

He will turn 37 shortly after the current Premier League campaign comes to a close. Petr Cech says he'll continue to work hard for the Gunners, aiming to win a trophy in what is his final season.

Although a premier league trophy might not be possible, Arsenal could still grab the FA cup or/and the UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE for the first time.
