Its been just a month ago when the Fifa Best Award was announced which saw the Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric scoop the award from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah. Although Messi couldn't make the shortlist, many believe his performance was outstanding and therefore deserved a spot in the 3-man shortlist. Well, that wouldn't matter now that there's a chance he could run away with the Ballon d'Or award.
Sir Stanley Matthews was the first player to be awarded the prestigious award by France Football in 1956. Ever since the award has been shared among several players including the Brazilian international, Ronaldo, Zidane of France among others.
The ceremony which has been scheduled to take place in Paris on 3rd December 2018 will be the first of its kind for women footballers to be acknowledged with a trophy for the women best player. Here is a full list of the 2018 Ballon d'Or contenders in no particular order.
